Driven by a vision of inclusion, Adaptive Sports Ohio has pioneered the creation of interscholastic wheelchair basketball for students with physical disabilities in Ohio. In 2015, Adaptive Sports Ohio established the first team in partnership with Wooster City School District.

In the years that followed, more teams joined the league, allowing for a full regular season and the first interscholastic wheelchair basketball state championship in the 2017-2018 school year. As the league gained prominence and competition intensified, the state tournament expanded to a larger scale event, moving from high school gyms to large arenas in 2022. Enhancing the state final created a true championship atmosphere, with video boards, a live stream, broadcasters, courtside seats for league teams, etc.

The league continues to grow each year, with new teams forming across Ohio. Athletes with physical disabilities now compete in a full basketball season, track their team rankings and statistics, and fight through post-season with sights set on the state championship. Above all accolades that can be achieved in the league, the initial vision remains: giving students with physical disabilities a chance to play.

*Disclaimer:  At the time that the league record book was compiled in 2025, documentation from some games in the league’s early years was unavailable. Attempts were made to fill in gaps through school websites, social media posts, etc. However, we still lack individual scoring records from 10-20% of games in 2018-22 and about half from 2016-18. As a result, the achievements of some early star players are likely underestimated on the season and career records lists.
